Charter Boat: Silver Halo
DUE TO THE WEATHER MANY BOOKINGS AND SPACES ARE SHORT NOTICE SO PLEASE GET IN TOUCH FOR THE LATEST NEWS OR TO MAKE A BOOKING ENQUIRY.
Silver Halo is a 2018 7.9m Cheetah Marine catamaran, built to the highest standards and a bespoke design.
A mix of practicality and versatility which provides plenty of deck space (3.5m x 2.6m) for rod and line angling for up to 4 anglers. This is a quality guided fishing experience.
We have hundreds of wrecks, many reefs and the famous Skerries banks in our range.
With a shallow draught we are able to fish in shallower water and closer to structure – ideal for casting hard or soft plastics and searching out predatory fish amongst the kelp beds and rocky gullies.
A rear platform and side door allow easy access to the water, ideal for landing larger fish or diving and snorkelling.
Silver Halo is fully outfitted with the latest Simrad electronics including a 12″ NSS Evo 3, sonar, 3D Structure scan, 4G radar, VHF, A.I.S, auto pilot and a 100w stereo sound system.
With full fuel tanks, Silverhalo’s range is over 150 miles. Cruising at around 20 knots, with a top speed of over 30, getting to our destination is quick, easy and safe. She is CAT 2 coded to 60 miles.
Matt Forrester, Skipper and owner of Silver Halo, has been a keen fisherman since the age of 9.
It all started in the late seventies around Torrington, North Devon, fishing with two younger brothers, Ben and Dan, on the river Torridge for trout, eels and dace. Many a weekend were also spent coarse fishing on the waters at Stevenstone, Cranford and Darracott Reservoir.
Regular trips to grandparents living in Torquay during the Summer holidays also allowed pier and rock fishing, with the added bonus of occasional trips on his Uncle’s 12ft boat, Miss Makkerel.
The late 80’s were spent fishing in South Devon, mostly on the Dart for trout and mullet and occasionally fishing all night in the lower reaches, dead baiting for big eels.
At 18 Matt completed a YTS in fish farming. Work experience was at Valley Springs Trout farm near Slapton, South Devon and the theory completed at Hampshire College of Agriculture, Sparsholt.
In the nineties, Matt travelled to Australia twice. This was perfect for regular surfing and fishing, catching a wide range of fresh and salt water species, the standout was a monster fresh water eel at approx 1.8m long and 200mm round!
Over the last 16 years Matt has also travelled to South Africa many times, a good amount of time was spent lure and fly fishing in the freshwater dams for Large Mouth Bass and Yellow Tail.
Fishing in the UK over the last 15 years has mainly been from the shore, casting into the surf and over rough ground, rock hopping with lures targeting wrasse and bass along some of South Devon’s most beautiful coastline. These rich shallow, inshore grounds are now fished from the boat.
Matt finally bought his first boat, a Warrior 175 in 2012. A great fair weather boat and often used for wrecking trips up to 30 miles offshore. This last 5 years of boat ownership set things in motion for the new charter business and upgrade to the 7.9m Cheetah, SILVER HALO.
Much of 2022 was spent living in the Philippines where he met his new wife Renelie. Whilst there, fishing was from small ‘pumpboats’ and a few amazing fish were caught including Ruby Snapper, Black Scabbard, Silver Scabbard, Grouper and various other species, almost all on his favourite method, Slow Pitch jigging,
Matt has quickly become a successful skipper, appearing in various magazines and also being involved in the ‘bringing to market’ of the Sidewinder Norse slow jigs range. He’s helped 100’s of happy clients grow their love for the sport and brought the style of slow pitch jigging to many of them. SPJ is still considered a fairly new style of angling in the UK and he’s more than happy to provide any help and tuition onboard.

Me and my brother went out with Matt for the first time this week, never know what to expect with new charters but need not have worried as it turned out to be an excellent day, arrived at first wreck and quickly into bass and pollack, Matt introduced a couple of guys including my brother to slow jigging teaching them how to use the whole set up which none of us had used before, again quickly into the fish with this new technique and catching a some excellent Bass, as the day went on trying different locations finishing with a run of good sized bass, all in all an excellent day with a knowledgeable and friendly skipper, would definately recommend and we have already booked more trips.
Thanks Matt see you in AugustSkippers Reponse: Hi Neil.

Once a year myself, my brother and a few good friends travel from various places across the uk and meet with the intention of going on a good fishing trip.
I came across Silver Halo Charters website and decided to call Matt to discuss the trips he offered. Matt was really helpful and we decided to go ahead and book a full day, complete boat charter for ourselves.
Our trip was at the end of September so Matt suggested that we targeted bass in Lyme Bay. The day before the trip Matt warned us the conditions may not be ideal as they had been a strong North Easterly but we decided to go ahead...we are all pleased we did!
The sea was quite lumpy in the morning so we found some more sheltered water to start the day, here we caught several small bass and a nice pollack. The sea settled abit after a couple of hours, so we headed to a wreck Matt had been catching good fish on.
Once at the wreck things really hotted up with several good bass being caught and released. The average size was around 6lb which is a good fish. We were getting some pretty heavy takes suggesting larger fish were present, then towards the end of the day I managed a great bass of 12lb. A real fish of a life time! It was made even better as it was my first ever time targeting bass!
Matt really helped us through the day with good advice and hands on help. All the tackle was provided and is of good quality. Silver Halo is a really cracking boat and travels quickly between fishing locations, all in all its a great package and is a big improvement over other charter trips that we have been on. 100% we will return again next year.
Thanks so much for a great day! 10/10Skippers Reponse: Hi Steve, thanks for taking the time to do such a detailed and positive review.
Saturdays trip was a great example of how rewarding spending a full day fishing at sea can be. Im so chuffed you had a good stamp of fish and the 12lb bass really was the icing on the cake!
It was a pleasure taking you all out and I look forward to your next trip.
Thanks again Matt. -

Great day drift fishing livebaits across wrecks. Caught some lovely bass to 6lb 10oz. Neither my brother or I have boat fished for years, and never drift fishing, but Matt was very accommodating and great at putting us on the fish. Recommended without hesitation.
Skippers Reponse: Thanks Dave it was a pleasure having you and James onboard. A great day given the tides and wind werent quite in our favor.
I look forward to getting you back out there soon,
Cheers Matt
